Convivialities is off to the printer !
As the first copies should arrive with folks who’ve ordered it at the end of the month, I thought I’d share the new and revised cover for the book:
Individual dialogues from Convivialities appear in the recent issues of The Chicago Review, Tripwire: A Journal of Poetics, and, in French translation, in Circuit: musiques contemporaines.
Also, I thought I might share news of a recent publication that’s come about through an ongoing conversation and collaboration with Dana Michel, who is featured in the very first dialogue of Convivialities. An excerpt of our Yellow Towel: A Score – an editorial work that engages with the choreography of Dana’s Yellow Towel – appears in the recent issue of the Coreia, an excellent journal focused on performance and critical writings based in Portugal. Outside the frame of Convivialities, I thought I would share the news of two other books presently in the works, both of which emerge out of extended conversations over these last years.
I’m pleased to share the news that my translation of Abigail Lang’s brilliant monograph, La conversation transatlantique: Les échanges franco-américains en poésie depuis 1968 (Les presses du réel) has been awarded a prize from the Villa Albertine Translation Fund. The book is going to be published in the University of New Mexico Press’s Recencies Series, and I’m proud to be working with Abigail to make her research and writing more widely available in anglophone contexts.
A first excerpt of the translation – on Stacey Doris, a fascinating poet – appears in the very first issue of Transat’ – an important new journal working in between French and English in the engaged and open manner that Abigail so succinctly portrays in her book.
Finally, having recently returned from several weeks of work in Mexico City and Ciudad Juárez, I’m proud to announce that the book I am editing with curator and writer Edgar Picazo Merino – on Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Border Tuner | Sintonizador Fronterizo – will be out this autumn in a beautiful bilingual edition (English and Spanish) published by Inventory Press in Los Angeles.
Border Tuner | Sintonizador Fronterizo – installed across the Mexico–US border, connecting Ciudad Juárez and El Paso, in 2019 – is a critically important work for the times in which we live. Edgar and I have assembled an edition that speaks to the cultural politics, issues in aesthetics, and social processes with which the original installation engages. I’m truly looking forward to sharing the work of this book in the time ahead.
